Haiti Update
Natural disasters in Haiti have touched one of our own, an elderly
lady who had worked with Kathy and me last summer at the
Vacation Bible School.
Heavy spring rains are beginning early this year. It sends a
message of how Redeemer's work in Haiti to help rebuild is
so important.
The lady lived in Cavaillon, located not far from St. Thomas
de Mersan and the Les Cayes area. Streams and small rivers
reached flood stage quickly then overflowed their banks. When
that happened, several older residents were unable to move quickly
enough to be swept downstream with the river. The lady was
regular in attendance at the St. Esprit Episcopal Church in Cavaillon,
and was a member in good standing of the Les Cayes chapter of the
Daughters of the King, an Episcopal womens' association.
As I said, when someone you know dies, it takes the story out of
the newspapers and brings it home.
Kathy & I will remember this individual whose energy and
independence, despite her advanced age, was an inspiration to
everyone who worked in the VBS program last summer in Haiti.
We will remember her this Sunday during the Prayers of the People,
and ask that you offer prayers for the sick and the suffering
throughout Haiti, at that time, also.
David & Kathy Peironnet
A funny from David Peironnet
..... people who read the Prayers of the People each week ......
The 1928 edition asked for prayers to illuminate all Bishops,
Priests, and Deacon.
A bishop visited a church one Sunday and the reader became
nervous in the presence of such a high official. Instead of
asking God to illuminate these persons, the poor reader
loudly called upon God to "eliminate all Bishops, Priests,
and Deacons."
Could this have been one reason the wording was changed?
